About Memorial Parkway Elementary
An inherent, heartfelt belief that all children can succeed is the driving force behind Memorial Parkway’s success. Teachers maintain high expectations for all students. A comprehensive curriculum supported by a strong scope and sequence results in high student achievement. Up-to-date technology offers a variety of remediation and enrichment opportunities for students. Memorial Parkway Elementary acquired a bilingual program during the 2006-2007 school year and we are pleased to see that program grow in number and success. Additional help for students is available through support programs such as RTI (Response to Intervention) and REACH (Reading Empowers All Children). Tutorial sessions are offered during the school day and as an extended-day program.
As one of the first schools in KISD to incorporate inclusion efforts into its campus improvement plan, MPE fosters an environment where individual differences are accepted and valued. The school houses two districtwide special education units: Early Childhood Autism Program (ECAP) and the Auditorially Impaired Program. Televised announcements are signed and the principal leads students in a sign lesson each morning.
Memorial Parkway Elementary enjoys strong support from parents, community and local businesses. The PTA funds a variety of projects ranging from staff development and classroom enrichment materials to field trips and guest authors and illustrators. Business partners provide teacher-training opportunities, incentives and speakers, serve on the Campus Advisory Team and fund special programs such as Accelerated Reader. MPE encourages family participation through special events such as Family Math and Science Night, Open House, Curriculum Nights, and designated weeks for Lunch with Grandparents, Mom and Dad. Community participation is provided through PTA activities such as the carnival and Breakfast with Santa. Students also participate in civic-minded activities such as food/clothing/sock/teddy bear drives for local charitable organizations.
