Wolfe Elementary Rebuild Steering Committee Formed
Katy ISD today announced that it has formed a steering committee to develop a process and timeline for possibly rebuilding Wolfe Elementary. The committee, comprised of 18 members representing parents, neighborhood residents, local business, as well as campus and central administration, held its first meeting on November 19.
“I am looking forward to working with this group to develop a sustainable plan for Wolfe,” said Marcy Canady, Katy ISD assistant superintendent for school & community engagement.” We had over 30 people express interest in serving on this committee and I would like to thank them for their willingness to serve their community. I am very confident the committee will do an outstanding job representing Wolfe Elementary and the surrounding community.”
As the preferred option for Wolfe, the committee’s charge will be to create and submit a process for developing a rebuilding plan to the Katy ISD Board of Trustees by January 2009 that would gain the most support and be sustained over time by the community surrounding the campus, as well as the overall school district.
The rebuilding plan will take into consideration projected enrollment, rebuilding costs, land values, and the commitments necessary for determining the next steps in creating the school’s future. If approved by the Board, the concept and design phase would follow.
On Oct. 13, Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey met with approximately 300 community members, including residents from surrounding subdivisions, teachers, and business leaders, at a town hall meeting to have a genuine conversation about the school. The purpose for dialogue was established as a need to understand historical concerns and current challenges, as well as discuss options and collective desires for the future of Wolfe.
