Elem. 32 Named Stan C. Stanley Elementary
(February 18, 2009) – The Katy ISD Board of Trustees has approved Stan C. Stanley as the name for Elementary 32. Stanley, a long-time Katy ISD volunteer and community member, was the committee’s unanimous choice due to his outstanding volunteer service to the schoolchildren of Katy, as well as his contributions to the entire community of Katy.
Stanley, president of Stanley Signature Signs, has lived in Katy since 1977. He has dedicated a number of years to the district, serving in volunteer programs such as Junior Achievement, Walk a Mile in My Shoes, Promise to Read, and Keep Encouraging Youth Toward Success (KEYS), the district’s mentoring program. Through his 50-year involvement in Boy Scouts of America, Stanley has managed to touch the lives of Katy ISD students both in and out of the classroom.
In addition, Stanley has served on several district-wide committees, including the nationally recognized Leadership Katy program and the Partners in Education Advisory Committee. He has served as a member of the district’s 2002 and 2006 Bond Committees. In 2006, Stanley was recognized by the State Board of Education as a Hero for Children, which recognizes public school volunteers who have been strong advocates for Texas school children.
Stanley is also an organizing member of the Katy Area Economic Development Council and served as Chairman of the Board for the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce in 2001. In 2002, Stanley received the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award.
Community members are invited to participate and provide input regarding the proposed name for Elem. 32 at a public forum at Griffin Elementary on Tuesday, February 17 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. After the public forum is held, the committee will review the input and provide their recommendation to the Katy ISD Board of Trustees for final review and approval.
