Seven Lakes team wins third place in state computer programming contest
(May 7, 2009) – A team from Seven Lakes High School placed third in Division I of the 2009 State High School Programming Contest sponsored by the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA). The competition was held April 18 at the University of Texas at Tyler.
The Seven Lakes team is comprised of Doug Ilijev, Xavier Beynon and Kevin Cheng. Their coach is Paul Stroud.
More than 300 students competed in the day-long contest, which, according to the TCEA, attracts some of the brightest students from across the state. The meet is the largest pre-collegiate qualifying state computer programming competition in the country.
Teams qualified to compete in the TCEA state contest through area meets held in February. Competing teams of up to three students attempted to solve 18 problems in three difficulty categories within a two-hour time limit by writing their own computer programs.
Friendswood and Cypress Woods high schools won first and second place in Division I.
