Katy ISD Seeks Community Input for Long Range Facilities Plan

Katy ISD has begun the process of seeking community input for its 2009 Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP). Members of the community interested in providing comments can pick up a LRFP Questionnaire from their local campus. Completed forms should be returned to the same campus no later than July 18, 2008.

The LRFP represents a 10 year facilities needs forecast that engages representatives of the District ranging from school administrators and support staff through local community members to professional resources including demographers, realtors, architects, and planners.  Throughout the process, District staff representing various disciplines, provide detailed input.  New Facility and Existing Facility Task Forces work to assess and analyze the District’s facility needs.  These findings set the direction for the development of planning options and associated costing.  As the work proceeds, District representatives will meet frequently to review the data and provide recommendations.

The completion of this update of the LRFP provides the next step towards meeting the District’s ongoing future facility needs and to optimize our learning and working environments.  This document provides administrators with a current working tool by which to utilize the District’s funds effectively to meet facility requirements.

The first step in this process is to identify and prioritize facility needs, both in terms of any renovation and/or additional facility requirements. The questionnaire is a guide that has been established to help community members participate in this process as guided by the five Critical Issue Areas introduced by Superintendent of Schools, Alton Frailey, during the Critical Issues Symposiums:

  1. Student Growth and Success
  2. Safe and Orderly Working and learning Environment
  3. Community Engagement
  4. Effective and Efficient Operation, and
  5. Organizational Improvement

When completing the questionnaire, it is important to be clear and concise in the rationale for your identified school’s needs. Communication with your building administrator is highly encouraged for this collaborative process. Prioritization is also extremely important as funding limits always exist.

The second step is for the Facilities Department to compile your data with that of other contributors in order to establish a comprehensive list. The Third step is for the Facilities Department representative(s) to return to the actual site being discussed to review and validate the data that has been collected.

Once this data has been reviewed and compiled, the Facilities Department will then proceed with our meetings with the Existing and New Facility Task Forces to fine tune recommendations and action steps.
