Important School Reopening and TAKS Testing Information

School Reopening

All Katy ISD campuses will be open on Thursday, April 30. The district appreciates the community's patience and understanding as we prepare our campuses for the safe return of students and staff.

TAKS Testing

Late this afternoon, Katy ISD received a revised TAKS testing schedule from the TEA for districts that closed today due to flooding in the Houston and surrounding areas.

Katy ISD will “slide the days,” which means that Tuesday’s testing schedule slides to Wednesday, Wednesday’s slides to Thursday, Thursday’s slides to Friday and Friday’s slides to Monday. As such, the tests that would have been administered today, April 28, will now be administered on April 29 and so on. The testing calendar can be found on the district’s Web site.

The TEA waiver for a four hour late arrival at high school campuses remains in effect during this week’s testing schedule. Katy ISD is contacting the TEA for approval to extend the late arrival date to include Monday, May 4.

Canceling school is never an easy decision. We desire to have children in class learning, but our number one priority is keeping students and staff safe. The decision this morning to first delay the start of school for two hours gave us the time to gather data about road conditions, the status of our buildings and availability of our staff so that we could make a fully informed decision to close school for the day.
