"It's a Jungle Out There!"

Katy ISD welcomed Drayton McLane, Owner and CEO of the Houston Astros as keynote speaker for the VIPS Celebration Breakfast, 2006. Astronaut Captain Gene Cernan led the Pledge of Allegiance, and the National Anthem was sung by the Cinco Ranch Junior High School Choir. Volunteers were greeted by Katy ISD varsity baseball players, and students from the Miller Career Center worked in the arena. Entertainment was provided by the Morton Ranch Junior High Fiddlers and the Katy ISD Elementary Honors Choir. The Volunteers of the Year were introduced by Katy ISD Teachers of the Year.

My Hero is....

  • my grandpa, because he fought in the Vietnam war, and stopped smoking when I was born.
  • my mentor, because he is like a brother. He is cool, funny and the best mentor I've had.
  • Katrina Firlick, because she is one of the few female neurosurgeons in the world, and I want to become a neurosurgeon also.
  • my mom, because my mom is always there for me when I need it. She is the person to tell me right from wrong. Most of all my mom is my best friend.
  • my father, because he thinks people will not like the songs that he writes, or music he plays, but he strums on his guitar anyway!
  • my husband, because he came into my life during a dark and difficult time. He became my beacon who guided me and showed me the meaning of true unselfish love.
