"Let the Journey Begin..."
The VIPS program’s journey through the community honored the past and the present with over 1200 volunteers in attendance. Guests were greeted by Katy ISD high school mascots and students from the Cinco Ranch High School theater department. The Volunteers of the Year were announced by the principals of Seven Lakes and Morton Ranch high schools, and four Katy ISD graduates who also delivered a keynote address. We welcomed Whit Wolman from Katy High School, Cristal Fagan from Mayde Creek High School, Anita Mantri from Cinco Ranch High School and Karim Meijer from Taylor High School. Other highlights included an invocation by Katy Mayor Don Elder and the National Anthem, sung by Cinco Ranch Junior High Choir Director Judy Boukheir and her daughter Angie, a senior at Cinco Ranch High School. Entertainment was provided by the Taylor High School Cheerleaders, Seven Lakes High School Show Choir, Morton Ranch High School Maverick Belles, Katy High School Bengal Brigade and the Mayde Creek High School Fiddlers. |

Katy ISD Volunteers of the Year 2006-07
"Volunteers are Superheroes!"
More than 2,300 volunteers packed the Merrell Center to celebrate another successful year of the Katy ISD VIPS program, and to welcome former first lady, Mrs. Barbara Bush as guest speaker. Also in attendance were members of the United States Military who presented their colors, and allowed us to honor America's true heroes. Entertainment was provided by the Katy Elementary School Choir, McDonald Junior High Fiddlers, Katy High School musicians and Katy ISD Junior High School Choir Directors. Volunteers were greeted by high school students from across the district, and students from Miller Career Center worked in the arena.

"It's a Jungle Out There!"
Katy ISD welcomed Drayton McLane, Owner and CEO of the Houston Astros as keynote speaker for the VIPS Celebration Breakfast, 2006, and astronaut Captain Gene Cernan led the Pledge of Allegiance. Volunteers were greeted by Katy ISD varsity baseball players, and entertained by the Morton Ranch Junior High Fiddlers and the Katy ISD Elementary Honors Choir. The Volunteers of the Year were introduced by Katy ISD Teachers of the Year.

"Surfing Through Change"
The VIPS Celebration Breakfast, 2005 christened the new Leonard Merrell Center. James Williams, a senior honor student from Cinco Ranch High School was the keynote speaker, and volunteers were entertained by the Katy ISD High School Choir Ensemble, Mayde Creek High School Drumline, and Cheerleaders from all five Katy ISD high schools. Campus Volunteers of the Year were introduced by junior high school students and their teachers. |
