 Tidbits of Information

The Music Department at Cimarron Elementary is honored and excited to present Ms. Dara Palmer, our new music teacher.  Ms. Palmer comes to us from another Katy school and is an awesome musician and teacher.  She has completed three levels of Kodaly training and has a wonderful voice.  We look forward to a great year with Ms. Palmer.

Upcoming Activities
· Third grade students are busy preparing for the upcoming patriotic program on Tuesday, November 11th. During music class, students will also be researching and learning about different patriotic songs and why they were written.  Letters were sent home with each student last week to let you know whether your child will need a red, white, or blue t-shirt for this performance.

· 4th and 5th grade choir, ensemble, and guitar students are off to an amazing start! These students are already preparing for their combined Holiday concert Wednesday, December 17th. Performance for Pk-2nd will be 2-2:40 p.m. and for 3rd-5th  2:50-3:20 p.m. We appreciate the dedication of all these students and their hard work during practice!

· We hope to see you at one of our upcoming performances!

The Classroom
Many new melodic and rhythmic concepts are introduced in each grade level this six weeks. The following are just a few examples of what is being taught in music class the second six weeks:

* In Kindergarten, the students are distinguishing between loud and soft sounds.

*In 1st grade, students are learning about high and low sounds, as well as feeling the difference between beat and rhythm in music.

* Second graders are learning dynamics and the melodic pitch do.

*Third graders are learning what four sounds on a beat are called.

* Fourth graders are learning syncopated rhythms.

* Fifth graders will begin recorder playing, and learn  the difference between a minor and a major melody.
