The mission of the Katy Independent School District library media centers is to educate all students to successfully navigate the information age of the twenty-first century empowering them to be proficient life-long learners.
To ensure this mission, library media specialists, administrators, teachers, parents, and the community must collaborate to:
· provide access to current and relevant resources in multiple formats through an instructional program that is integrated with the classroom curriculum,
· ensure that all students, employing a plethora of informational resources, can proficiently locate, access, integrate, evaluate, and communicate information and ideas, and
· maintain a learning environment that stimulates and enriches an appreciation of literature, intellectual freedom, social responsibility, and life-long learning.

The library staff at Edna M. Fielder Elementary School encourages the students and faculty to utilize a variety of resources to meet academic needs and to provide an avenue for recreational reading. The intent is to develop skills that will encourage the students to be life-long readers.
The development of informational and study skills is fostered by instructing classes as well as working with students individually. A multimedia approach to research is taught utilizing a variety of resources such as CD’s, video and audio cassettes, online resources, books, periodicals, and other forms of media.
The students are also encouraged to participate in various reading incentive programs that are promoted by the library staff. The forms will usually be available in the documents section of this website. The love of children's literature is also nurtured by the presentations of various authors and illustrators throughout the school year. |
