HOURS OF SERVICE

Students are welcome to use the library resources between 8:10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year.

THE COLLECTION

The library houses books and audio-visual materials including audio and video cassettes, maps, globes, DVDs, and instruction manipulative. We may also request materials from other schools in the district. Fielder also subscribes to a wide selection of periodicals and online databases.

 STUDENT CIRCULATION

Each student is given a district ID Badge for which he is responsible during the school year. This badge must be presented at the circulation desk each time he checks out materials. Since our circulation is computerized, this procedure serves as a means of verifying that the materials are being checked out to the correct patron.

Our policy allows each student to check out books only. Audio-visual materials may be used in the library. Additional resources may be borrowed for projects and reports. Books are circulated for two weeks and may be renewed by the student on or before the due date.

Reference materials are circulated only if they are needed for special reports or projects. The student is allowed to borrow one reference resource per evening. The book must be returned to the library by 8:20 a.m. the following morning. Our complete reference collection must be available for classes to utilize during the school day. Reference materials are not circulated over holidays.

 OVERDUE MATERIALS

Overdue notices are printed each week and sent home in the Monday communication folder. This is our means of communicating with the home. Overdue fines are not charged; however, the student is required to pay for lost or damaged materials. The parent will be refunded if the lost book is return in good condition.

 READING INCENTIVE PROGRAMS

Each year the library staff sponsors various reading incentive programs. Many of the programs are promoted school wide, while others are designed for specific grade levels. The objectives of these programs are to develop a proficiency in using library resources and to foster life-long reading. Although the reading incentive programs are not mandatory, all students are encouraged to participate in these enrichment activities. A notice will be sent home prior to the beginning of each program.

BOOK FAIRS

Book fairs are held annually. The profits are used to purchase new materials for the library, sponsor authors' visits, and fund reading incentive programs. Parents are encouraged to attend and assist their student with his selections.
