Coach Guzman’s and Coach Loftin’s Teen Leadership classes along with the French Club are putting on, Books Abroad, a drive to collect books, clothing and toys for the children of Nigeria, it is a community partnership co-sponsored by the Katy Independent School District and the Amobi Okoye Foundation, which is headquartered in Katy. It is part of the Okoye Foundation-sponsored Changing Africa Through Education (C.A.T.E.), an outreach program designed to provide better living conditions and opportunities for Nigerian children.
Donations from the drive are personally delivered to recipient organizations during a spring trip to Nigeria by Amobi Okoye, Foundation representatives, and volunteers from the National Football League. Bring any gently used children’s clothing, toys and books for items that they have outgrown or lost interest and most importantly, share the word about Books Abroad through your social media contacts.
The drive will go till December 3rd. The boxes for the Amobi Okoye foundation have been set up in the 9th grade and main campus offices. It will be a school wide book and clothing drive. The students from Teen Leadership and French Club will come and pick up the items from the drop-off boxes to sort and label the items in the classrooms. If you need help bringing the stuff from your classroom, send me an email and I will send a student to your classroom!
