Greetings and welcome to the Katy Junior High School Tiger Band Program. It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we introduce our program to you in a more detailed manner. We are excited that you have chosen to become a part of what is an outstanding musical organization, dedicated to developing the individual strengths and talents of our members, life enrichment and a life long love of music. In addition, through the performance of challenging musical literature, team effort, and dedication, we will experience and inherit ideas and traditions handed down by some of the greatest musicians and people in the history of music.
Music is a performing art and learning to play an instrument is an acquired skill, as is math or foreign language, therefore, discipline and hard work are essential to the mastery of the art. Membership in a performing organization is an earned privilege. Each member of the performing organization has a responsibility to attend ALL rehearsals and ALL performances. You are vital to the success of this entire program, and your presence is necessary to prepare and execute a performance.
In the pursuit of excellence, it is important that everyone understands our expectations and we, as directors, understand you so that we can work together to be the best junior high school musicians possible. Any successful band program is a result of a strong partnership between the students, teachers, parents, and school administration. Each partner is equally important and the support of everyone involved is essential to achievement and enjoyment. We are committed to offering you a quality musical education and a rewarding and memorable life experience. We look forward to developing this partnership with the KJH community as we work to continue our “Tradition of Excellence” for the Katy Junior High School Band program.
This document outlines the guidelines and expectations for making this year a success for all involved. Both STUDENTS and their PARENTS should take the time to thoroughly read this code. There are a few documents at the end of the code for you to return to school indicating your understanding of these guidelines and expectations. We want your experience to be outstanding this year, without any confusion or misunderstanding. This code is intended to assist band students and their parents in knowing how we will effectively use the partnership we have created.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
