Competitions: There are approximately six competitions a year at area high schools and universities. They are either after school or on Saturdays. Participation in Academic Challenge does not involve missing school time.
Selection for the tournament teams is based primarily on practice attendance.
Preparation for Tournaments: Practice sessions are after school on Thursday and Friday afternoons in E216. They last an hour or more, depending on the flexibility of the sponsor and participating students. The practice questions cover a variety of subjects through various formats. The atmosphere is intellectually stimulating and entertaining.
Study Materials: Students may go to the National Academic Quiz Tournaments Website, www.naqt.com, and click on “You Gotta Know” to find lists of the most commonly asked questions in various subject areas. General knowledge from course work and personal study and experience is also extremely useful.
