Students must meet the Houston Community College System (HCCS) entrance requirements. The instructor for the Criminal Justice courses is provided by HCCS. Students who qualify for the dual-credit course (high school and college credit) program have an opportunity to receive up to 12 hours of college credit.
NOTE: Dual-credit Criminal Justice courses require payment of applicable fees and purchase of textbooks.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE I offers juniors an introductory study of Pre-Law/Criminal Justice.
Introduction to Criminal Justice/HCCS Dual Credit (1 HS credit fall/3 college credits):
Courts and Criminal Procedures/HCCS Dual Credit (1 HS credit spring/3 college credits): Technical Introduction to Criminal Justice studies the history and philosophy of criminal justice and its ethical considerations; crime is defined, its nature and impact are explored. This course includes an overview of the criminal justice system; law enforcement and the court systems; a study of prosecution and defense; also trial processes, corrections, and penal systems. Courts & Criminal Procedures elements of study include the judiciary in the criminal justice system; structure of the American court system; prosecution; right to counsel; pretrial release; grand juries; adjudication processes; types and rules of evidence; and sentencing.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE II 
(Seniors only) are an intense study of Pre-Law/Criminal Justice. A Special Topics internship (see below) is available during the final semester of the program.
Crime in America/HCCS Dual Credit (1 HS credit fall semester/3 college credits):
Fundamentals of Criminal Law/HCCS Dual Credit (1 HS credit spring semester/3 college credits):
Crime in America will introduce the student to American crime problems in a historical perspective; social policy affecting crime; impact and crime trends; social characteristics of specific crimes; and prevention of crime. The Fundamentals of Criminal Law course is designed to study the nature of criminal law, its philosophical and historical development with major definitions and concepts. Also included in the course content is the study of the classifications of crime with the elements of crimes and penalties using Texas statutes as illustrations in addition to criminal responsibilities.

Special Topics in Social Studies/Internship (NOT an HCCS dual-credit course – ½ credit spring):
This course is designed to include special projects/programs during the final semester (senior year) of the program. Special projects may include internships, field trips, guest speakers and other activities allowing exposure to the Criminal Justice profession.
