About Morton Ranch High School:

Morton Ranch High School is named in honor of the Morton Family Ranch, established in 1896, when Elbert M. Morton and his wife Margaret moved with their family from Missouri to Katy.  Today, a fifth generation of Mortons is in line to be a Katy ISD graduate.

At Morton Ranch High School, Katy ISD’s goals in the areas of excellence and technology are evident. The district’s fifth high school is expansive not only in size, but also in its commitment to providing an educational environment that is student-centered, parent-friendly and teacher-supportive.

In addition to academic courses, students at Morton Ranch have access to a wide variety of clubs and organizations, including Academic Decathlon, National Art Honor Society, Best Buddies, Bowling, Cheerleaders, Theatre, Band, Color Guard, Choir, DARE Role Models, Maverick Belles Dance Team, Debate, Destination Imagination, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Foreign Language Clubs, FFA, Good Sportsmanship League, Health and Occupational Science Association, Mock Trial, MAVS volunteer program, National Honor Society, Journalism, Orchestra, Peer Assistance Leadership , UIL Academic, Future Teachers Association,  Family Career and Community Leaders of  America, and Junior Achievement.

Awards and Honors in 2008 – 2009:

·         MRHS had 3 National Hispanic Scholars, 2 National Achievement Scholars, and 1 National Merit Semi-Finalist.

·         4 students received Jesse H. Jones Houston Endowment Scholarships.

  • Academic Decathlon State Qualifier (3rd year in a row).
  • Students earned passing scores and college credit on 258 Advanced Placement exams in 20 different subjects.

·         Boys’ Soccer team was co-district champions.

·         Maverick Belles Elite Team earned a National championship.

·         Wrestling team earned numerous awards including district championship (boys), 12 regional qualifiers, 5 state qualifiers, and State Dual Qualifiers (boys and girls).

·         Girls’ Track and Field earned 6 district champion titles (in pole vault, shot put, discus, 400 meter, 4x200 relay, and 4x400 relay). 

·         Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) team earned 1st place in district for Management Decision Making, and 1st pace at State for the chapter scrapbook, and for fundraising for the FBLA Endowment Fund and March of Dimes. 

·         FFA had numerous competitors at the state level, and earned 1st place at state in poultry judging. 

Distinctions in the 2009 – 2010 School Year:

·         Alley Theater teaches a collaborative playwriting class to MRHS theater and creative writing students.

·         The MRHS FFA chapter earned the Golden Horizon Award and a National Chapter Rating during the summer (2009).
