Yearbooks and Yearbook Ads 2008 -2009 Website  

ASL club meeting scheduled for TODAY after school has been cancelled.  ASL club will meet on Wednesday as scheduled for a MANDATORY meeting before our performance on Friday.

The German Club will meet after school on Wednesday, October 15th at 2:45 in West T-16. Please join us and help make posters.

Best Buddies is having a match party on Tuesday October 14th at Fuddruckers by Katy Mills at 6 pm.  Everyone who turned in an application please plan on attending. 

NHS members are encouraged to volunteer at the West Memorial Elementary Fall Carnival on Saturday, October 25th from 10-2.  Please e-mail Brooke Carico at bcarico828@mac.com to let them know that you will be able to help.  Also remember to get these hours signed off by someone in charge at the carnival.

On Saturday 33 members of the Maverick FFA participated in the Austin County Livestock Judging contest. Leading the way for our chapter was the team of Bria Richard, Dylan Robbins, and Michael Morrissey with a 10th place finish out of 90 teams. Michael was the top Maverick for the day. Everyone that participated represented Morton Ranch well.

FFA members mark your calendars: Animal Pick is FINALLY HERE.  Pig Pick will be Today (10/13) at 3:30.  You should have already set up your pen at the barn and be ready for your new animal. Go straight to the LD Robinson Pavilion after school, if you need a ride ask an officer. Be aware of what is going on but do not interfere with an Ag teacher. Check in with Mrs. Snowden!!!

You will be able to preview sheep and goats from 6-8pm on Tuesday October 14th. Goat raisers will pick on Wednesday, October 15th and sheep raisers will pick the following day Thursday, October 16th at 3:30. You should bring halters for sheep and goats to get them to the barn and all raisers should have their pens ready for their animals before this time. All picks will be held at LD Robinson. Ask advisor or officer if you need help with directions or transportation.  Be ready to raise the bar as a new event takes place in the Maverick FFA.

NHS will be providing the opportunity to hear about the UT Dallas McDermott Scholars program from a Morton Ranch alumnus.  If you are a junior or senior and think you might be interested in this program, please come to Ms. Hoskins’s room on Friday, October 17 at 2:40 p.m. for this informational session. You do not have to be a member of NHS to attend, but please check the senior scoop or scholarship bulletin to see if you might qualify for this program.

Anyone interested in competing against other schools in the Math UIL competition please attend the informational meeting after school at 2:45 on Thursday, October 16th in Mrs. Haisten’s room, 2233. 

Auditions begin today for “Wizard of Oz” !!  Music/Singing auditions are today beginning at 3:30 PM in the Performing Arts Center.  Please arrive early for your time slot .  Acting auditions and technical interviews occur on Tuesday, beginning at 3:00 PM in the PAC.  Technical interviews will be conducted in the theatre room 1134.  Again, please arrive early for your sign up time! 

                          Everyone who has auditioned on Monday and Tuesday will arrive at 3:30 on Wednesday for the dance/movement audition.  Call backs will occur on Thursday and Friday.

                          Auditions are open for all Morton Ranch High School students.  Please join us in this wonderful experience.  Please see the Theatre Callboard in the main hall  of the Fine Arts area for additional information and a tentative rehearsal calendar.

Attention Senior Women members: we will have a brief meeting on Tuesday at 7am in the LGI, please make plans to attend. Important information will be discussed it is very important for you to attend.

Any girl that is interested in trying out for the Lady Maverick basketball team for the 2008-2009 season will need to sign up by Tuesday October 21st. If you are interested you need to pick up an information packet from one of the basketball coaches in the following rooms:

Coach Doiron in room 2021, Coach Troncale in room West T-19 or Coach Bowers in West T-20.

Congratulations to the girls Junior Varsity and Varsity Cross Country Teams!  Friday night the Lady Mavs ran at Houston Baptist University.  They had their best performance of the year!  Both teams placed 5th out of 14 teams. Sophomore  Karla Navarro placed 5th in the JV race and Sophomore Evelyn Martinez placed 10th in the JV race.  Great job ladies!

The Morton Ranch Boys’ Cross Country team ran Friday at the Houston Baptist Invitational.  The Varsity, led by Edgar Castillo and Alex Soto, finished 2nd out of 14 teams.  The JV, led by Juan Rojas and Mitch Martinez, finished 2nd as well.   This was a great overall performance for the entire team.  Keep it going Runnin’ Mavs!

You can nominate a person on the MRHS faculty/staff that you feel deserves recognition.  At the end of each month, Student Council members will select “Employee of the Month”.  The person selected will have their picture on display and receive special parking privileges.  You can find the nomination forms outside the counselor’s office!

Let’s show the MRHS Faculty/Staff  how much we appreciate them!

Students - This year’s Latin Fest is scheduled for Friday, October 24th,with special guests Mega 101 FM and
Fox 26. Latin fest practice is under way. We practice every Wednesday and Friday after school in the Main Campus Commons. The last day to sign up to participate in this year’s Latin Fest is this Friday. We are still looking for speakers for Famous Hispanic Tributes, Spanish Speaking Country Tributes, Skit performers, and one more Host. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Crespo.

SENIORS – get your friends together and make SURE you have your own page in the yearbook this year!  Buy a senior yearbook ad now before time runs out!  Include pictures of your best friends, your boyfriend or girlfriend, your family –  all the people who have made your years at MRHS special.  Your own personal message will also be printed in the senior ads section of the yearbook, so get your pictures together now and send them in! The deadline to buy a senior ad is Oct. 15th , or when all the spots fill up, so hurry!  Information and forms are available in the senior office, the main office, and the journalism room – 1258.
