Project Prom

Can you believe it, only two more months and our seniors will be graduating from Morton Ranch High School. On June 1, 2008 the graduates will have the opportunity to walk across the stage and receive their high school diploma as a member of the first class of Morton Ranch High School to complete all four years at MRHS. Another first for the school will be the Project Prom Party that is being planned by senior parent volunteers. This party will take place later the same day of the Senior Prom, May 3rd and conclude the next morning, May 4th.

For those of you who may not be familiar with Project Prom, it is an all night party similar to Project Graduation that is held the night of and after your child's Senior Prom. The event is held in a safe and secure environment under the watchful eye of adult volunteers and professional security guards and/or police. The environment is drug and alcohol free. There will be music, dancing, fun and games for all to enjoy. The location for this event will be here at Morton Ranch High School. You can receive more information by emailing Rob Scharr r.j.scharr@gmail.com. Please include a telephone number that can be used to phone a response. The party is for any Morton Ranch High School Class of 2008 Graduate and a guest. Guidelines for determining whom the senior may invite as a guest will be forthcoming.

The Project Prom Committee has been meeting monthly since last spring. The committee meets the second Wednesday of the month in the LGI Room (#2503) on the second floor near the Rotunda. The General Membership Meetings begin at 7 p. m. and generally last about an hour and a half.

The Project Prom Committee has approved several fundraisers that will be conducted throughout the year. Listed below are the fundraisers that have been discussed and approved to date. Several have already been completed, several are underway and several more are just starting to be planned. We need all parents to get involved in the fundraising for two simple reasons. First, the more money we raise the lower the ticket price for admission to the event. Second, we can provide more games, prizes, and activities at the party. So, please join in!

Concession Sales at the Houston Texans football games

This summer the Project Prom Committee voted to staff a concession stand at Reliant Stadium for all of the Houston Texans home football games. This will be our largest fundraiser for the year. Volunteers are still needed for this event. This takes 20 volunteers per game to properly staff the concession stand. This is a great way to get to know other members of the committee. We spend a lot of time together each game and often have a little friendly competition of our own within the stand. It has been fun seeing who ended up with the most money in sales and it has been fun watching the celebrations as a generous patron leaves a tip. Please contact Rob Scharr at r.j.scharr@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out.  To date, we have earned over $6,000.00

Share Cards

On the first day of school your student should have brought home a flier about share cards for Krogers  grocery stores. If you did not receive a flier, please email r.j.scharr@gmail.com and he will update you on the availability of the cards. This is an excellent way to raise money for Project Prom because a portion of your total grocery bill at check out is donated to Project Prom. This is an easy way to generate income for the Party that does not cost you anything. To date we have received $326.00 from Krogers. Please use this no cost fund raiser option.

Car Wash

A car wash in the fall held at Golbow’s Garage raised $750.00.  A spring car wash is being discussed.

Garage Sale

A fall garage sale held in the MRHS parking lot raised $3,042.00.  Again, a spring garage sale is being discussed.

Mr. Maverick

A fun beauty contest type competition for the Senior boys.  This event raised over $900.00.

Donations

We are in dire need of donations for our Dinner and Silent Auction as well as for door prizes at Project Prom. We will soon be mailing and emailing sponsorship and donation forms to our community businesses and senior parents. We are interested in things we can offer at our silent auction such as golf packages, dinners, laptops, etc. We also need items we can use as door prizes for the graduates the night of the Party. We are also in need of cash contributions to help fund Project Prom. If you have any suggestions or donations, please contact Rob Scharr by sending him an email at r.j.scharr@gmail.com.
