About Country Nottingham Elementary

Nottingham Country Elementary opened in the fall of 1981 with 690 students enrolled in grades K-5. In order to meet the needs of the growing community, new wings were added in 1992 and 2004.  Nottingham Country Elementary is a Texas Education Agency Exemplary School; our students’ achievement reflects the incredible commitment of our staff and community.

Many PTA members put in thousands of volunteer hours each year. A parent-school partnership has enhanced NCE’s already outstanding reading program. PTA funds have been used for staff development and facilitated the creation of a Literacy Library to enhance our curriculum and support our students and staff.  Ready Set Read (Winning With Words) enables parents who are trained and supervised by reading specialists in the REACH (Reading Empowers All Children) program to provide small-group assistance for children who need extra help. MVP (Math Volunteer Program) is another mentor program in which volunteers and student peers tutor in basic math facts. During “Spice Time,” parent volunteers lead students through core-area enrichment activities, ranging from air and water experiments in grade 2 to the metric Olympics in grade 3 and Texas history activities in grade 4. Our partnership with Taylor High School also provides high school students as mentors through the PALS (Peer Assistance Leadership Program). Adult mentors through KEYS (Keep Encouraging Students to Success) and DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) role models add to our many exceptional volunteer programs.

NCE also offers a variety of enrichment opportunities: Aerospace Club, Student Council, handbell choir and recorder lessons.  After-school programs such as Spanish and robotics are available for a small .

Reading/language arts instruction with the “Johnny Can Spell” program is used in grades 1 through 5.

NCE has been the recipient of many grants to enrich the instructional program from Fund for Teachers, ExxonMobil Chemical Co., Shell Oil, Chevron, and DP Electronics. Many additional business partnerships vastly enrich our campus.
