Prodecures for the OAC

At the Opportunity Awareness Center, we have a set of basic program components to ensure that the students are successful. Our main objective is to introduce the student to academic and personal success. Our small student/teacher ratio, behavior management program (point sheets), academic management program (weekly progress reports), individual/group counseling sessions as well as the involvement of the family through informational parent meetings and frequent contact all work together to establish a firm foundation for student success. Students and parents are given ownership of this through the use of contracts.

At the time of the OAC Intake Interview with the student and parents, each student who enrolls in the OAC enters into a contract with his parents and the OAC. This contract stipulates the academic and behavioral objectives to be accomplished by the student, the level of the parent(s) participation in the student's program, and the recommended support service requirements for the student to successfully complete the OAC program.

In order to complete the program, students must earn their way out of the OAC. The three keys are Attendance, Grades, and Behavior. Students must attend school on a regular basis as well as keep all their grades above a 70% and demonstrate positive progression through the level system in order to be returned to their home campus. Students who meet these requirements will be returned to their campus the Monday following their release.
