Our School
Named for a long-time Katy Elementary School educator, Hazel S. Pattison Elementary School opened in the fall of 1989 with 674 students. It is located approximately 28 miles west of downtown Houston in a fast-growing suburban area. Early in 1993, an addition was built onto the school to accommodate an increased enrollment. A second addition, which currently houses the 5th grade classrooms, a new art room, and a science lab, was completed in 2004.
In 1994, Pattison was named a National Blue Ribbon School. Today Pattison has a staff of 100 with an enrollment of 840 students. Pattison has also received the "Just For Kids" award the last 6 out of 7 years!

Since it first opened in 1989, Pattison Elementary has maintained a reputation for academic excellence and for the high quality education its students receive. Its warm, friendly, family-oriented atmosphere is enhanced by high levels of parent and community involvement.
Pattison’s instructional program includes a low student/teacher ratio, full-time nurse, librarian and counselor; specialty teachers for art, music and physical education; the REACH reading program, which provides intensive small group instruction for students; speech and language therapy; special education and early childhood programs; and the Challenge Program for gifted and talented learners.
At Pattison Elementary, technology is integrated into the curriculum so that students successfully use it as a tool for life-long learning. This vision is achieved through appropriate hardware, software, and staff development in the effective use of technologies. The technology program is supported by a computerized learning resource center, two computer labs, a mobil wireless computer lab, computers in each classroom, and use of Internet resources throughout the curriculum.
Students visit the library for both library lessons and book checkout. Students in grades K-5 participate in a schoolwide reading incentive program using the Accelerated Reader program. The Accelerated Reader software contains over 1600 titles with a range of reading levels to ensure a wide selection of reading material for students. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 participate in the Texas Bluebonnet Books program, which encourages students to read books from a list compiled each year by librarians, teachers, and parents across Texas.
Enrichment is provided to students through the Science Enrichment Lab and Junior Achievement; an Accelerated Reader Program; writing enrichment events; daily, self-sustained reading and journal writing; recycling programs; field days; DARE, (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), for 5th graders; Student Council, 5th grade school safety patrol; after-school Spanish; the 5th grade Colt Chorale; 4th and 5th grade tone bar ensemble; and enrichment curriculum in math for 4th grade and in all content areas for 5th grade.
Just for Kids Award
Pattison Elementary has received the "Just for Kids Honor Roll" 6 out of the last 7 years. This is a unique award given to elementary schools in the state of Texas for sustained academic excellence. In 2006, we were voted the best among 178 elementary schools in the state and there are about 730 eligible elementary schools. This year the bar was raised on Just for Kids by emphasizing the percentage of students "passing all tests" and achieving "commended on all tests." Way to go Pattison!! |
