About Raines High School
Martha Raines High School is the alternative school of choice for Katy Independent School District. Our accelerated curriculum allows students to complete graduation requirements at their own pace and provides an opportunity for them to graduate within four years of starting high school.
First known as the KISD School of Choice, RHS opened in the fall of 2002 with 1 classroom and 1 teacher. The name Martha Raines High School was officially adopted in the spring of 2007 in honor of Martha Raines, a long time, highly respected KISD teacher of mathematics. Currently, RHS has seven classes, eight teachers, 2 paraprofessionals and a full-time assistant principal. RHS graduated over 250 students during the 2005-2006 school year. In 2006-2007, RHS had 233 graduates. An additional 51 students completed graduation requirements during the RHS summer school.
Using a combination of online and teacher based instruction, RHS provides students with a comprehensive, standards-based curriculum designed to meet each individual student’s needs. A low teacher to student ratio, one computer per student, and individualized instruction help to insure student achievement. More information is available on the RHS Information Sheet.
All students wishing to attend RHS must submit an application through the counselor on the home campus. Applications are available on the Publications and Documents page of this website. The application forms can be completed online but must be printed and returned to the home campus counselor for verification and submission.
A bond issue passed in the fall of 2007 will provide funding for expansion of the current Opportunity Awareness Center building to provide permanent space for Raines High School. The current temporary classrooms were moved to a new location on the campus during the summer of 2007. Construction of the new addition is expected to being in the fall of 2007. Construction and renovation of the present building is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2008.
