Third Grade

We are now in full swing of third grade.  We have had the opportunity to conference with most of you regarding your child and the third grade curriculum.  Please contact us to set up a time to meet if you ever feel you need to discuss your child and his or her progress.  Our planning and conference time is from 10:25-11:15 am.

Wow!  How hard your children have been working as there is a lot to learn in third grade!  They have been working on their nouns and verbs and the noun/verb agreement.  They have also been practicing using their handwriting skills.

In Reading, the students have been developing their vocabulary and learning to use context clues in the stories that they read.  They are really trying to develop their comprehension skills by using reading strategies taught them.  These help when finding the cause and effect, supporting facts and details and drawing conclusions.

Math has been quite challenging this second six weeks.  Our third graders have been working diligently with addition and subtraction with regrouping, money, and learning the time tables. Although minor mistakes are often made, they are never tiring in their efforts to succeed.  You may find yourself with some extra help when shopping.  Money is one of their favorite skills to work in Math.  Please make sure your child is practicing his/her addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts.

In Science the students learned about simple machines, force and motion.  In Social Studies they have been learning all about the citizenship and government.

The third graders continue to strive for success in all of their subjects.  Please remember that it is important that the students should be reading at least 30 minutes each night and practicing their addition, subtraction, and multiplication math facts.  We’re looking forward to a great year and especially looking forward to working with such a great bunch of children.
