1st Six Weeks Newsletter

We are very excited to start the new school year.  We have a lot of things in store for our awesome new fourth graders.  Some of the things we have been working on this first six weeks are:   We are learning why we read and what makes us good readers.  We also are learning about story elements such as setting, characterization, plot, problem, and solution.  The students will also learn to categorize and identify literary genre, i.e.; fiction, nonfiction, historical fiction, informational books to name a few.

In math, we are working on problem solving, place values of whole numbers through millions, comparing whole numbers through millions, estimating and rounding whole numbers through thousands, and multiplication facts through 12 x12.  Keep studying those math facts!

In language arts, we are working on parts of speech, generating ideas for stories, editing sentences, and spelling.

In science we reviewed the scientific process and participated in our first experiment! We will continue to study weather conditions, patterns of change, and the role that the sun and oceans play in the water cycle.  We will also study tides, waves and currents, erosion, and ecosystems in the upcoming weeks. Please keep studying those vocabulary words each week!

This year, fourth graders are studying Texas History. We began by reviewing our map skills and geography. Our fabulous fourth graders will then move on to study the regions of Texas and their locations.

Congratulations on a wonderful first six weeks!

 Keep up the good work!

Mrs. Dushane, Mr. Gallagher,  Mrs. Manoukian,

Mrs. Sharp, and Mrs. Kotewa
