SINFONIA WINS BIG!

Many of you were present at our Autumn concert, where Sinfonia competed in the annual Texas Honor Orchestra Competition.  Over the weekend, the judging was held in Georgetown and we found out that the Seven Lakes Sinfonia captured 6^th place IN THE STATE AMONG ALL HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN THE STATE!  They outranked every other Katy ISD school, and every high school in Region 23, which includes Katy ISD, Houston ISD, and Alief ISD.  Only one other Houston-area high school outranked them.  This 6^th place finish is remarkable because there is no distinction between 4A and 5A in “Orchestra World;” for TMEA purposes, the Orchestra members competed at the 5A level when we opened.  If there was a 4A/5A distinction, the Seven Lakes Orchestras would be the State champs for two years running. 

 The final rankings turned out this way:

2. Plano East Sr. High – Betsy Thomas, conductor
3. Westwood High School -  Susan Williams, conductor
4. Jasper High School  – Julianne Booth, conductor
5. Stratford High School – Michael Fahey, conductor
6. Seven Lakes High School- Desiree Overree, conductor

 Congratulations to our students!  I am so very proud of our amazing musicians!  Keep up the great work!

 CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to all of our students who auditioned last Saturday for Region 23 Orchestra!  I am very proud of all the students that tried out.  We had some tough competition, but our students zipped through with flying colors.  Congratulations to the following students for attaining membership in this prestigious organization!

 Additionally, the following students are to be congratulated because they earned membership in the Region 23 Area Orchestra:  Atticus Crowe (Violin), Doug Ilijev and Rebecca Cardone (Violas), Catherine Cheng and Phillip Kim (Celli), and Luis Baston (Bass).

 Finally, a hearty congratulations to two amazing players!  Atticus Crowe (violin) and Catherine Cheng (cello) are members of the TMEA 2008 All-State Orchestras!  Bravo to these outstanding musicians!

 JOINT HOLIDAY PERFORMANCE

On Friday, December 14^th, all of our Orchestra students will perform at our annual Holiday Concert.  We will be ringing in the season with traditional holiday fare.  The festivities begin at 6:00p in the Freshman Commons, with dessert and chamber music from our student ensembles.  We will continue at 7:00p in the PAC, with our Holiday Concert which begins with our guests, the Orchestras from Beckendorff.  We’ll cap off the evening with the SLHS String Orchestra.  Hope to see you there!

 FINAL EXAMS AND SYMPHONY AUDITIONS

…will take place during the last week of school.  Check out the bell schedule to find out exactly when your final exam will be held.  If you are auditioning for the Spring semester of the Symphony, be sure to sign up for a time slot.  All auditions will be held the last week of school.
