Summary of Changes:

° Last day to except binders is the next day after the April meeting. That is FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2009. -- NO EXCEPTIONS.

A maximum of 10 hours of volunteer service at SLHS are countable for underclass students. Seniors may count a maximum of 20 hours of volunteer service at SLHS.

° Hours counted as a requirement for involvement in a student club, athletics or fine arts organization will not be accepted for credit.

* SOS and NHS accepted hours may overlap.

* The SOS Hours Summary worksheet has changed for the 2008-2009 school year.  Please be sure to download the new form for use going forward.

* Seniors are required to complete journal entries for services performed.  Binders without journal entries will not be accepted for credit and service cords will not be awarded at graduation.  Be sure to include ALL hours served in your senior year in case there are questions about any of your hours.

* From April 1, 2008 all service hours will count towards the 2008-2009 school year.  Check out the document “10 Great Summer Volunteer Ideas" for ways you can get started today!  Hours do not carry over from year to year.

* Incoming Freshmen may start working on their hours beginning April 1, 2008.  Hours earned and recorded before becoming an SOS member are still countable as long as they fall in the April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009 time window.

* Important reminder to all SOS volunteers:  When volunteering in the community you are to behave appropriately and responsibly.  You are representing Seven Lakes High School and are expected to act respectfully to all event coordinators and their participants.

* Students volunteering at the various school carnivals are required to make advance arrangements with the carnival coordinator to ensure that a job is ready for you when you arrive.

* Project Prom Events :  Seniors are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer however are not allowed to count these hours for SOS credit. Project Prom is fundraising for this senior class event and are not considered community service for senior students. Only underclassmen may earn SOS credit hours for these fundraising projects.
