NHS is open to junior and senior students who have at least a 3.75 GPA and receive teacher recommendations. Students may be eligible in the spring of their sophomore year. Members are required to earn 25 service hours per year to remain in good standing. Service hours include tutoring, recycling, help at Maud Marks Library, MD Anderson, and many more.
Information regarding meeting times, service hour due dates, and volunteer opportunities can be found on the bulletin board outside of room 132. Members are encouraged to check this board on a regular basis.
Service hours are recorded on a weekly basis by the recording secretary. Each member has a page in the service hour binders. These binders can be found just inside room 132 and can be checked anytime during classes, before or after school. Please remember that only the recording secretary can record hours. Members cannot record their own.
In order for volunteer work to satisfy the NHS requirement of 25 hours it must be an opportunity open to all NHS members. Any member can submit a volunteer opportunity to the adviser. Members need to only list the details of the opportunity (including the contact information of the member) in writing and turn-in to Mrs. O’Neal at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
