- Juniors: if you are interested in math, science, engineering, or computer science then you might be interested in an interactive, online learning experience where you complete Web-based lessons during the school year and travel to NASA for a six-day summer experience. You will get an all-expense paid trip to NASA for a workshop; earn a science elective credit towards graduation and discover career opportunities at NASA. Are you a senior who never bought your freshmen yearbook? Did you buy a yearbook from 2006? If not, there are a few 2006, 2007 and 2008 yearbooks for sale. Staff will be selling them at all lunches on the main campus or come by room B130 for more details. Also, If you have not picked up your yearbook, please do so before or after school in B130.
Yearbooks and DVD Video Yearbooks are on sale now. Yearbooks are $60 and Video Yearbooks are $10. Go to smart-pay.com to order.
Could you use some extra money? The KISD Athletic Department is hiring part-time lifeguards for the 08-09 school year. Contact the Aquatics Coordinator at 281-396-7779 if you are interested in working as a KISD lifeguard for $12.50 an hour.
Katy High School is honoring Katy High’s 110th year with a Homecoming theme of “Reflections”. We would like to use copies of past KHS homecoming pictures throughout the commons as the decorations. If you have an old or not so old homecoming picture that you would like to let us use, please scan and email a copy to: AllisonWilloughby@katyisd.org Thank you for your support of KHS!
Homecoming tickets will be on sale during all lunches starting Monday October 13th through Friday October 17th. The tickets are $10 per person - $20 a couple. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $15 per person. Come enjoy a night of “Reflections” as this year’s homecoming theme in honor of Katy High School’s 110th year.
On Oct 15th, KHS Juniors and Sophomores will be taking the PSAT.
Seniors: Arrive at 10:40AM and report to their 4th period classes. Any senior arriving on campus prior to 10:40AM must report to the main commons. Please remain quiet as some students will still be testing.
Freshmen: Attend periods 1-3 following the bell schedule listed below. If you have a class on the main campus, report to the west cafeteria during that class. If you have band you may report to the band hall.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
The Student Council is sponsoring a Hurricane Ike Personal Hygiene Product drive. Please give to those who were hit much harder than we were by bringing products and dropping them off in the library or any principal’s office. The items could include shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, lotion, diapers, baby wipes, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. These will be given to shelters for those who are still homeless after the hurricane.
The Art Club is meeting on Monday, Oct 6th at 2:45pm in Mr. Milton’s room (C107).
The Katy High School Band is taking orders for poinsettias. Red, pink, white, burgundy, and red/white poinsettias are available. Orders will be taken through Tuesday, October 7th. Contact any KHS Tiger band student or call 281-395-8279 for more information.
The Band Booster Club will be selling mums every day in both Cafeterias until October 10th.
DARE Role Models: Please come by room A225 and vote for your 2008-2009 officers. New officers and Red Ribbon Week plans will be announced at our meeting, Wednesday afternoon, October 8, at 2:45 in room A225.
The Best Buddy matching party will be Thursday, October 9th in the commons. Pizza and drinks will be served. All members are encouraged to attend and join the fun!
NHS Members: Please turn in your t-shirt order form and payment to Mrs. Lahad in A077 by Friday, October 10th, so we can place our order as soon as possible.
THE KATY HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING TEAM NEEDS YOU!!!! Bowling season is about to start. Tryouts for the Katy High School Bowling team will be October 15 and 16th. Stop by room A084 before or after school to pick up your tryout out forms. All forms must be returned with the tryout fee and signed by a parent before you can tryout. Come join the fun! There will be Varsity and JV teams for both girls and boys. Experience preferred but not required. Stop by A084 today!!
There will be a Close Up Parent meeting in the KHS Library, Wednesday October 8th at 6pm. The Close Up Representative from Washington, D.C. will be here to answer any questions you may have about the trip.
If you are a junior or senior and interested in Close Up, but have not signed up, the deadline has been extended to enroll on a first come, first served, basis! Please see Mrs. Lahad in A077 or Mr. Gregory in A066 to get the school ID number so you can sign up. The deposit is $500 and the final balance is due October 17th.

CROSS COUNTRY
The Girls Varsity “A” Cross Country Team placed 1st in the Bellaire Invitational at Bear Creek Park on Saturday, the Girls Varsity “B” got 3rd, and Girls JV placed 1st also.
This Friday, the cross country teams will be running in the Puma Invitational at HBU at 4:30pm.

Any student (boy or girl) interested in being a student assistant for the men’s basketball program needs to attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday October 8th at 2:45. Please come by the office and talk to one of the basketball coaches if you are interested.
If you are planning to try out for Men’s basketball, you need to stop by the men's basketball office to pick up a basketball shoe order form. Orders will be placed on October 15th.
FOOTBALL
Last Saturday, the Varsity football team gave Cypress Bay a Texas size whipping (31-6). The Tiger defense held the previously unbeaten Florida team to 134 yards of offense. The Tiger offense rolled up 372 yards, 242 of which came on the ground. –read more –
This weekend the Tigers will start District against the undefeated Morton Ranch Mavericks.
TENNIS
The Varsity Tennis team is playing Cinco Ranch at the Ranch on Tuesday.
Volleyball
Last Friday, the Varsity volleyball team defeated the Taylor Mustangs. Tomorrow they host the Mayde Creek Rams. Matches start at 4, 5 and 6pm.
