FROM THE  COUNSELORS

If you are planning on moving out of the KHS attendance zone over the summer, please make sure you stop by the registrars’ office to pick up a Leaver Document.

Seniors -- High Honor, Honor, and Volunteer cords are available for pick up in the Registrars’ office.  The list is posted just outside the Registrars’ door, remember to  bring your ID to pick up your cord.

The online Senior Survey link is posted in your English classrooms, as well as throughout the building.  This required survey is short and should only take a minute to complete.

Seniors and Juniors are eligible for two days of college/military visits per year:  two days per Junior year and two days per Senior year.  Students must receive prior approval before the visit in order for the absence to be excused.  An Excused Absence Request for a College/Military Visitform can be obtained from the campus website, Attendance Office or Counselors’ Office.  The form must be submitted to the Counselors’ Office for approval two days before the requested visit.  Forms submitted to the Counselors’ Office after the visit will not be approved for an excused absence.  Also, the form must be signed by a college/military representative and returned to the Attendance Office immediately following the visit in order for the absence to be excused.  Absences for college/military visits are not counted for Final Exam exemption purposes.

Spring Final Exam Schedule and District Procedures to earn Final Exam exemptions

Students who meet all the requirements for exemptions except the attendance requirement may apply for an exception.  The deadline for submitting an APPLICATION FOR AN EXCEPTION TO THE EXAM EXEMPTION GUIDELINES BASED UPON EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES for the spring semester is Friday, May 24th.

·                     The Extenuating Circumstances Committee can only consider exception for up to (2) absences over the limit required by the district Exemption Guidelines.  Students with more than (5) absences per semester cannot be considered.

·                     The three circumstances that usually warrant an exception are absences that involve death of family member, illness involving hospitalization and days missed due to injuries received while participating in an event or contest representing Katy High School.

·                     Documentation must accompany the application.

·                     Students may obtain an application from their grade-level Assistant Principal’s Office.
