Cell Phones in School Zones
Just a friendly reminder that it is against the law to be talking on your cell phone while driving in a school zone. We have noticed an increase in the number of people coming through our parent pick-up line while talking on their cell phone. Safety of our students is a top priority at MCE. Please help us to keep all our students safe by following the law. The DMV website states: You cannot use a cell phone while in a school zone, unless you're stopped or using a hands-free device
Thank you for helping to keep our students safe!

Breakfast and Lunch
Purchasing Breakfast - Students who do not have money in their account will not be able to purchase breakfast. Please make sure that if your child would like to eat breakfast at school that they have money in their account.
Purchasing Lunch -Elementary level students are allowed to borrow money for one
lunch meal per day in an emergency situation. Parents are responsible for monitoring the amount of money in their child’s account and for paying back any borrowed money in a timely manner. Accounts can be setup at MealPayPlus.com
Students may not charge a la carte items (snacks, second trays, ice cream) to their account.
Grandparents at lunch
Due to space and safety concerns, lunch visitors are restricted to parents/stepparents/ guardians, non-school aged siblings, and grandparents. Parents MUST provide written permission for grandparents to be allowed to have lunch with their grandchild. This form is available at our front office. Lunch visitors must have their driver’s license to get a Raptor badge.

|
Visitors:
For security reasons, ALL visitors must register and pick up a name tag at the front office before proceeding to any part of the building. All visitors must enter and exit through the FRONT doors. This is an important part of our safety and security plan. Please understand that we have the safety of all our students in mind when we ask to see a driver’s license when you are picking up a child or request that you put on a name tag to enter the building. If you notice a safety concern with our building, please bring it to the attention of the office staff or an administrator. Katy ISD uses the Raptor tracking system.

Dress Code
According to Katy ISD policy, shorts are to be no shorter than mid-thigh and may not be split or fringed at the hem or seams. Students wearing shorts that are too short or fringed will be calling home for a change of clothing. Please remember that tank tops, see-through shirts or blouses, midriff tops or clothing with spaghetti straps are not acceptable for school wear unless worn under other clothing.
|
Emergency Contacts
Parents/Guardians,
On the enrollment card it says, “Emergency Contacts are only authorized access to information regarding the student and authority to transport the student in an emergency situation occurring at school when the parent/guardian cannot be reached. At any other time, emergency contacts have no rights regarding the student and must have a written authorization from the parent/guardian for a specific date/time to pick up the student from school.”
This means the people you have listed as emergency contacts must have a note from you if they are picking up your child for anything other than a true emergency. For example, if a student has a doctor’s appointment and someone other than the parent/guardian is picking them up from school for the appointment that person must have a note, with the date and time of the pickup, from the parent or we cannot release the student.
If you have any questions about who can pick up your child, please contact the attendance office.

Notification to Parents of Teacher Qualifications
As a parent of a student at Mayde Creek Elementary, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child, and Federal law requires the school district to provide you this information in a timely manner if you request it. Specifically, you have the right to request the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers:
· Whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
· Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status because of special circumstances.
· The teacher’s college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.
· Whether paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications.
If you would like to receive any of this information, please contact Juli Noeldner at 281-237-3950.

Katy ISD is sharing information about the district and your child’s campus as part of our obligations under the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2007 (NCLB). An information letter, along with a copy of the NCLB School Report Cards for the district and our campus are available for your review in the front office of our school or online at www.katyisd.org.

Student Software Discounts
Katy ISD students may now purchase Adobe and Microsoft software titles at special K-12 pricing due to the district’s participation in the Adobe K-12 Student Licensing Program and Microsoft Student Select Program Agreement.
These purchasing programs are similar to what is found on college campuses where students purchase software at campus bookstores. We are pleased to offer two websites for this K-12 purchasing program. All purchases are made directly from the vendor and require proof of Katy ISD student status. We are publicizing this program so that students may use the same software tools at home as they are using in our classrooms.
