Please join me in congratulating two MCJH teams of teachers who were awarded grants funds from the Katy ISD Education Foundation today. Both teams were awarded $5,000 each to support innovation in the classroom.
The first team of teachers includes Sandie McCurdy, Debora Himber, Jennifer Britt, Jessica Byles, Lynn Horelica, and Suzanne Childress. They will purchase eTablets for students to use in the classroom. The tablets will create a learning experience relevant to the student's generation and prepare them for the online world they will encounter in high school, college and beyond. There are countless electronic resources available for classroom use to enhance our English Language Arts (ELA)/Reading TEKS and units of study. As a result of having eTablets, student readers will have access to thousands of free online books that they will not otherwise have the opportunity to read. Student writers will also use the eTablets to become published authors using a variety of online publishing websites such as Storybird.com, www.lulu.com, www.tate.com, and many more.
The second team of teachers includes Tim Scott and Stacy Holland. This team will purchase Ti Nspire calculators for students. This project will enhance student learning and engagement by giving students exposure to technology with a class set of fifteen Ti Nspire CX calculators and one Ti Nspire CX Navigator System. The team will incorporate Ti calculators in all three-grade levels to help students connect theoretical concepts taught in the classroom to real world situations.
Congratulations to both of these teams of phenomenal teachers!
