The UIL Social Studies team won Back-to-Back State Championships this past weekend at the UIL Academic State Meet. The Social Studies team helped the Spartans to clinch Sweepstakes Runner-Up for the second year in a row. Pictured from left to right, Mr. Irish, Effie Rahman, Fan Feng, Meridith Mock, and Chris Do. Meridith also won Back-to-Back Individual Social Studies State Championships. Nick Collins also captured an Individual State Title in Computer Science. Other Seven Lakes State Titles were Computer Science, Math, and Number Sense. Congratulations to all the teams and individuals that competed this past weekend at the UIL Academic State Meet.
COMPASS Test offered at MCHS
Houston community college is providing students with the opportunity to take the COMPASS in the MCHS library. Students must first apply for admission to HCC. You can do so online at the following address:
http://www.hccs.edu
Once you have applied, you will receive a student ID number. You must have this number in order to sign up for and take the COMPASS.
To sign up for the COMPASS, click on the link below and completely fill in the form. You will need an email account in order to submit the form. You will NOT be able to submit the application from school. You will be notified if the session you request is not available.

Academic Decathlon:
***The team broke a scoring record, their team score of 47,941 is the highest score in the history of Texas Academic Decathlon for a 4A team. The Spartans were also the only school to capture all 3 team medals. Stephen Tu also was the highest scorer in the entire state (among all classifications) and became the all time high scorer for a 4A student in the history of Texas Academic Decathlon. The team also won almost $20,000 in scholarship money from TAD.
If you are interested in trying out for the Spartan Decathlon team next year, there will be a informative meeting on April 3 in the LGI at 7pm. If you are unable to attend this meeting, but are interested, please contact Mr. Irish for more information.

Online Grades:
Katy ISD is now providing on-line access to your student’s grades through the Parent Information Center (PIC). The PIC can be accessed through the KISD home page. A letter explaining the PIC and providing a onetime use PIN was sent to each SLHS family the week of January 28th. If you failed to receive a letter or lost your letter please call Leslie Flattery at 281-237-2970 to get your unique PIN. If you received your PIN but it is not working, or you have further questions, assistance can be obtained from the Instructional Technology Facilitator, Scotty Johnson, at 281-237-2967.
College Visits:
Students who meet the following criteria will be allowed to make one (1) college visit during their junior year and one (1) college visit during their senior year:
1. The student must have passed the required parts of the TAKS test for the previous year.
2. The student must be on track to graduate on time.
3. The student is classified as a junior or senior based upon credits earned.
4. The student is passing all course work.
5. The student has no truancy or other attendance problems.
6. The student is not in a DAEP placement or assigned to a JJAEP.
Forms to request approval are available in the grade level Attendance Office. If your child is planning a college visit, it is important that this form be submitted at least one (1) week prior to the absence.
