Wilson Elementary, named after Katy ISD teacher and administrator Tom Wilson, opened its doors in August 2012. Throughout his career, Mr. Wilson worked to establish a school environment where every child felt respected, safe and encouraged to learn to the best of their ability. He has served as a mentor and role model for what teaching should be. His commitment to education expanded beyond the campus level through recruitment of teachers and the coordination of student teacher programs in Katy.
Beyond his service to students and educators in the classroom, Mr. Wilson has held numerous positions and received several awards with the goal of enhancing education. His positions and awards include: Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) District IV President, TEPSA State committees, TEPSAN of the Year District IV, Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) committees, Gulf Coast School Personnel Administrators Association (CGSPAA) Vice President, Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators (TASPA) State committees, Texas Representative to the Principals’ Center at Harvard University, Harvard University Principal’s Academy, Past President of the Brazos (Texas A&M) Student Teacher Advisory Board, Past President of the University of Houston Student Teacher Advisory Board, Past Vice President of the University of Houston Education Alumni Board, Advisory Board consultant for Western Governor’s University, and Presenter at the Inter-Institutional Student Teacher Consortium (2007-2011).
