Meal Price Increase for 2010 – 2011
The Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved a meal price increase for the 2010 – 2011 school year. Student meal prices in Katy have not increased since the 2003 – 2004 school year. The new price structure will enable the Nutrition and Food Service Department to continue to provide student meals that meet the federal and state nutrition mandates. The Department continues to pay for food, supplies, labor, benefits, utilities, equipment and other department related expenses, from the revenues generated by this program. Funds are also being diverted to help pay for kitchen related construction projects.
The continuous growth of the free and reduced meal program (presently 30% of district students eligible), the school breakfast program, and the a la carte program, enable the department to pay these direct and indirect costs. Tax based funds can then be used for Teaching and Learning and not to support the food service operations.
Meal Prices for 2010 - 2011
Elementary Student Breakfast - $1.00 (from $0.75)
Elementary Student Lunch - $1.75 (from $1.50)
Secondary Student Breakfast - $1.00 (from $0.85)
Secondary Student Lunch - $2.00 (from $1.75)
Reduced Price Student Breakfast (all levels) - $0.30
Reduced Price Student Lunch (all levels) - $0.40
Adult Breakfast - $1.50 (from $1.25)
Adult Menu Lunch - $2.75 (from $2.25)
Price of Milk at all levels will remain at - $0.75
Additional ala carte prices will be available by August 1 on the Nutrition and Food Service Department webpage.
Other Reminders
· Please encourage eligible parents to complete a free and reduced meal application ONLINE for the 2010 – 2011 school year. The new application should be available August 1 and will be found on the district webpage. New income guidelines will be released by the USDA during the summer.
· Parents can also make meal payments using the Meal Pay Plus website starting August 14. The annual ‘Bonus’ weekend will take place on August 14/15. Meal Pay will send a reminder email to parents who have signed up to use or view student account information. This August email will remind parents of the ‘Bonus’ weekend and let them know when the site will again be open to accept payments. The ‘Bonus’ weekend provides a ‘free’ meal incentive to parents according to the amount of funds they deposit, during this weekend only, into the child’s account. Parents may continue to sign up and view this site until the end of this school year. The site can be accessed from the district webpage.
· New next year will be the opportunity for parents who use Meal Pay to place funds either on a General Account, accepting both meals and ala carte sales, and a Meal Account, accepting funds for meals only. This should be very positive for those parents who are requesting to limit the funds spent by their child to purchase food items.
· Further Nutrition and Food Service Department information will be communicated later in the summer.
· This information may be shared with any appropriate campus staff.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support of these programs. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
