"Volunteers are Superheroes"
|
More than 2,300 volunteers packed the Merrell Center to welcome former first lady, Mrs. Barbara Bush as guest speaker. Also in attendance were members of the United States Military who presented their colors, and allowed us to honor America's true heroes. Entertainment was provided by the Katy Elementary School Choir, McDonald Junior High Fiddlers, Katy High School musicians and Katy ISD Junior High School Choir Directors. Volunteers were greeted by high school students from across the district, and students from Miller Career Center worked in the arena. Volunteers of the Year were announced by the Janet Theis and Martha Brown from the Partners In Education office, which administers the VIPS program. |

"Volunteerism is something near and dear to my heart," Mrs. Bush said. "People helping people is at the heart of the American spirit. All of you working together side by side, you are changing Katy." |
