VIPS Picture Gallery

Welcome to our VIPS Picture Gallery. These pages remind us of past VIPS events, milestones, and the many hundreds of volunteers who have served Katy ISD.

Our 2006-2007 VIPS theme was “Volunteers are Superheroes”, so we asked teachers, staff, parents, volunteers and students to tell us a little bit about their heroes.  On these pages you’ll find some of their inspiring responses.

 Heroes

My Hero is....

  • my parents, because they were living examples of love for each other and for their five children. I grew up thinking we were rich, but later as an adult I found out how they struggled and how hard they worked to make ends meet. They were 'rich' in love, patience, determination, understanding and they lead by example.

  • my mom, because she knows what I'm going through in life as a teenager. She understands the pressures in Junior High and High School. She shows me what is right and what is wrong.

  • my Girl Scout Leader, because she is an inspiration to all girls whose lives she has touched, and her life of service is an example to us all. Despite the advance of multiple sclerosis she continues to be active in her community, not just as a Girl Scout Leader, but as an advocate for the disabled. Being confined to a wheelchair, with only limited movement in her arms, did not stop her from riding in a hot air balloon, camping, sailing, learning how to paint, and volunteering at her church. She even made it to the top of a mountain, carried in her wheelchair by her son, a football player, and his team-mates for a charity fund raiser.

  • my grandpa, because he was 64 years old, and he still knew how to have fun.

  • my mentor, because she helps me with my work when I don't get it, and when I just need a friend to talk to she's always there.

  • Eleanor Roosevelt, because her loyalty and tireless efforts for her country in its time of need inspired millions of Americans to follow suit.

  • the kids, who in spite of disabilities, poverty, language barriers and family problems, come to school happy and eager to learn! Their strength is inspirational.

  • astronauts, because without them we wouldn't know what the moon was like, or know the other planets.
